It's a sure sign that live events are returning to Kamloops with bands set to compete for prizes and bragging rights next month.

Lee's Music is teaming up with the Downtown Kamloops business association to host Battle of the Bands on May 18.

Local musicians will showcase their talents to live audiences and three judges that will determine who takes home a champion trophy and a $1,000 gift certificate to Lee's Music.

As the Downtown Kamloops business association is still looking for a venue to host the bands as it gears up for the competition, but admissions are open for musicians that plan to join.

All bands must have at least three members and perform their own original songs, with two song sets limited to eight minutes.

The competition is intended to be a family event, so any obscenities or "moshing" can disqualify a band.

More information on Battle of the Bands and how to enter the competition can be found on the Downtown Kamloops website here.
