An adventurous woman has been publishing videos of outdoor gems in the Kamloops area and abroad since purchasing her first video camera on a backpacking trip to Europe in 2007.
Born and raised in Kamloops, Teresa Cline has attracted over 10,000 subscribers to her YouTube channel called Teresa the Traveler.
“It was trial and error and I had no formal training, learning as I go and trying out different programs,” she said. “I recently worked as a warehouse manager in the movie industry, got tips on sound and editing and it helped up my game.”
Cline’s passion for adventure started at a young age. The first big backpacking trip she took in Central America in her 20s sparked a hunger for more adventures. She started writing books about local must-see places, blogging on her website and making videos.
“I was always curious about the rest of the world and wanting big adventures,” she said. "I get a joy sharing my travels with other people and inspiring others to get out and explore locally and beyond, it is how I contribute.”
Cline has travelled and documented videos in countries in South and Central America and Europe, along with Bosnia, Afghanistan, Berlin and Zimbabwe. She’s met “a lot of interesting characters” along the way.
“A fan messaged me that he calls his backpack Teresa and is travelling South America, inspired by my videos,” she said. “And a man who was overweight bought my book about exploring Kamloops. It inspired him to get active and start his own travelling Instagram account.”

Cline said her family is supportive of her adventurous lifestyle and she doesn’t worry about her safety.
“The world is safer than people think,” she said. “The only issue is sometimes people recognize me and swarm around asking to take photos with me and others have to push them off. I try to go with the flow.”

An electrician by trade, Cline left Kamloops to work in Calgary three years ago and is currently between jobs with her company. She is coping with a knee injury she exacerbated during COVID while hiking in the Rocky Mountains documenting waterfalls for a book she’s working on.
Her next big adventure will be knee replacement surgery and once she can walk again she plans to travel to Thailand and continue making videos.

Before moving to Calgary, Cline happened upon the ghost town set-up at Deadman Valley Ranch in Savona and made a video of it. It’s an old western town based on replicas of historic buildings in the US and Canada in the 1800s.
“I just randomly drop into places and find out if people want to be on camera,” she said. “It is a pretty cool place and the owner has a lot of cool old stuff I think he’s lent out to movie sets.”
She is currently working on two books about waterfalls: one of waterfalls in B.C. and one of waterfalls in Alberta.
