KAMLOOPS - If you've been stuck inside and hiding from the smoke that has been blanketing Kamloops, here are some fun family events taking place this weekend that will give you a good reason to get out of the house.

The sixth annual Interior Savings Rotary Daybreak Ribfest is back at Riverside Park and features six ribbing teams that will spend the weekend filling your belly with delicious ribs while competing for the title of "People's Choice". Along with the food there will be live music and entertainment at the band shell all weekend long as well as plenty of games for children in the Family Fun Zone. Sunday is Family Day which will start with a pancake breakfast at 8:30 a.m. and will feature a new event call "Machine Mayhem" where several pieces of heavy machinery will be on display from Finning Canada, Outlaw Motorsports, Prairie Coast Equipment, Douglas Lake Equipment, and more. All other events will be running from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

The Hot Nite in the City Show n' Shine is back this weekend for the 23rd edition of the car show. Everything from vintage collector cars to new electric vehicles will be on display starting tonight, August 11, with the Poker Run going from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. as the vehicle owners show off their machines on a tour through town before ending up at Aberdeen Mall. Tonight's family friendly event will then move inside to the A&W for games and prizes. Then on Saturday HNITC will be shutting down six blocks of Victoria Street to make room for all the vehicles that will be on display from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. with the awards presentation going from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Country music star Aaron Pritchett is playing a concert at the B.C. Wildlife Park on Saturday, August 12, for the Country 103 Birthday Bash. Kids two and under get in free when accompanied by an adult and general admission tickets are $20 each. It is a family friendly event and no outside food or beverage is allowed.

The third annual Stokefest Psychic Fair runs this weekend at Akashic Ranch and the Crystals & Curiousities Cabin on Campbell Range Road in Monte Creek. This event boasts a "healing hippie vibe" and features intuitive readings, healing modalities, vendors, and live entertainment. It will run from 10 a.m. Saturday to 6 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $5.

Unfortunately because of the smoke some of this weekend's scheduled events have been cancelled.

The Kamloops Dragon Boat Festival has been cancelled this weekend which means the 23 teams that signed up for the race will not be competing this year. The decision to cancel was made earlier this week when the air quality rating was in the 40s.

The Steampunk Express hosted by Kamloops Heritage Railway has also been cancelled along with all the other KHR tours until further notice.

Ongoing events Artisans Alive and Yoga in the Park have also been cancelled for this weekend due to the smoke.
