It's going to feel like summer this week in Kamloops

Environment Canada is forecasting a high of 30 Celsius in Kamloops on Friday.

KAMLOOPS - Get ready for a taste of summer this week in Kamloops.

Environment Canada meteorologist Doug Lundquist says a high pressure system is spreading into the B.C. Interior from the coast, bringing sunny skies and warming temperatures over the next week.

Lundquist says the city will start the week with daytime high temperatures in the low 20s, and by Thursday the mercury could climb close to the 30 degree mark. He reminds those enjoying the summer-like conditions to be wary of the increased danger of wildfire and mindful of frigid water conditions in the area’s lakes and rivers this time of year.

Expect a mix of sun and cloud today, May 6, in Kamloops with northwest winds at 20 km/h and a high of 23 Celsius. Clouds are forecast to roll in this evening with a 40 per cent chance of showers before skies clear overnight with a low of 7 C.

The sunshine should continue tomorrow with a high of 25 C, a brisk wind out of the west and an overnight low of 13 C. The weather office is calling for sunshine on Wednesday with a high of 25 C and an overnight low of 11 C.

Things will heat up on Thursday with a forecast high of 25 C under sunny skies.

You may feel like going to the beach on Friday because Environment Canada is calling for a high of 30 C.

The sunshine is expected to continue through the weekend with highs around 27 C.

Normal temperatures at this time of year in Kamloops are highs of 20 C and lows of a 6 C.
