It's been almost two weeks since a new COVID-19 case was reported in Interior Health

It's been almost two weeks since we've had a new case of COVID-19 in the Interior Health region, but two new clusters should remind people to be vigilant.

There were only 12 new COVID-19 cases in B.C. in the last day and there are only a dozen people in hospital with the disease, but that doesn’t mean people can lower their guards.

That’s the message delivered in a joint news release from Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry and Health Minister Adrian Dix.

“We have recently identified two community clusters of COVID-19 associated with large family connections,” the release states. “This tells us that our public health teams are quickly identifying new cases. It also tells us that, while our overall provincial cases may be low, COVID-19 is active and spreading in our communities.”

There are active cases in each region of the province but no new cases in the Interior Health Region. Interior Health hasn't reported a new case since May 28 and only one new case since May 22.

"When you bring households together, regardless of how many people that may include, everyone brings their own risk with them and the potential for spreading COVID-19 increases,” the release states. "This is why fewer faces and bigger spaces needs to continue to be our guidepost for how we move forward.”

There have now been 2,680 people in B.C. who tested positive for COVID-19. Of those, 2,328 have recovered and 167 have died.
