A Shuswap woman has become the latest B.C. Interior resident to compete with the hope of making it to onto the cover page of an international tattoo magazine.

Sorrento resident Paige Reinelt has made it into the top 10, of one of many categories, in this year's Inked Magazine Cover Girl competition. The winner will appear on the cover of the magazine and pocket $25,000.

The 32-year-old mother of two said she got her first tattoo at age 17 and hasn't stopped since. She currently has 21 tattoos and says she spent "a few thousand" dollars over the years adding more and more ink.

The voter-driven contest has seen Reinelt make it through the two heats to get into the top 10 and will need more votes from the public to keep progressing to make it to the top five. She's currently sitting in ninth place with voting due to end at 5 p.m. on March 5.

Reinelt adds her name to several other B.C. Interior residents who have recently entered the competition.

Kamloops residents Jarilyn Southgate, Edith Friesen and Cora Lee all entered the Ink Magazine cover competition in 2019.

Reinelt started out by getting a small flame tattooed between her shoulder blades. The tattoo represents the beginning and end of a pregnancy loss.

"My tattoos are all very personal and represent aspects or people in my life," Reinelt said.

Film director Tim Burton is also an influence on her tattoos.

"I have a half sleeve that has Tim Burton elements including Jack Skellington and Sally from Nightmare Before Christmas," she said. "It took three sessions, all three hours long."

And while getting a tattoo may sound painful, Reinelt doesn't think it is.

"Like the whole process. I like the way that the needle feels," she said. "I love the finished product... it’s art that reflects my personality and I’ll have it forever."

And does she have any that she regrets?

"No... I love them all," she said.
