One of the Interior’s only outdoor watersides is opening to the public for the season next weekend.

Salmon Arm Waterslides have been in the community for decades, said Tim Frazer, COO with Village West Group, the corporation that owns and operates the water park on Lakeshore Drive.

The company has operated the water park since 2012, said president Gord Erickson.

“It’s a place where if you grew up in Salmon Arm, you’ve been here. It’s a staple in the community, it’s a place where families go to have fun and kids go to make memories,” Frazer said.

In the 40 years the business has been operating, no significant changes have been made to the park, so long-time customers will remember them from their childhood, he said.

“We’ve kept up on keeping them running in tip-top shape.”

In the mid-eighties, there were a dozen waterslides across the province, with the majority in the Okanagan.

Just two remain in the southern Interior — Splashdown Vernon and the Salmon Arm Waterslides.

Most shut down due to development and when it became more expensive to maintain the slides.

Frazer thinks Salmon Arm’s survived because of the community support.

“We love the experiences that happen here for families, we’ve got lots of other development projects on the go and we’re thrilled to keep the community staple going,” he said.

His favourite slide is the Double Trouble as it’s the fastest one.

The waterslides open June 25 to the public and tickets can be purchased online. Season pass discounts are also ongoing until June 24.

General admission is $26.50 for those ages 13 and older and $16.50 for ages four to 12 and for seniors. Tickets for children ages three and younger are $3.50.

More information on the slides can be found on the company’s website
