It'll be the weekend before it gets above freezing in Kamloops, Okanagan

Arctic air has settled into the Kamloops and Okanagan regions and will persist through to the weekend.

Even though there will be lots of sun, especially later in the week, the Environment Canada online forecast doesn’t call for a daytime high above zero in the Okanagan until Sunday when it’s expected to get to 4 Celsius.

Kamloops is expected to warm up sooner, reaching 3 C on Saturday and 7 C on Sunday.

Most of the Okanagan is forecast to reach of high of -4 C today, Feb. 22 and -6 C tomorrow before gradually moderating. Overnight lows are forecast for -15 tonight then warming a couple of degrees each night during the week.

Penticton’s forecast high is -2 C today and 0 C tomorrow but then the forecast for the remainder of the week is the same as the rest of the Okanagan.

Kamloops is forecast to be a degree or two colder early in the week with a high today of -5 C and an overnight low tonight expected to drop to -16 C.

Both areas may see some light snow during the day Wednesday then snow overnight into Thursday before it clears and the sun will shine. Winds of 15 km/h tomorrow could drop the wind chill to -19 C.

The mountain passes leading to the Lower Mainland show a 40 to 60% chance of flurries today, gusty winds and lows of -22 overnight before cloud and snow move in Wednesday afternoon.

No snow is forecast for eastern mountain passes today but lows could hit -25 C overnight with clouds and snow moving in Wednesday afternoon.

Alpine snow levels at regional ski hills:

  • 204 cm – Sun Peaks
  • 170 cm – Silver Star
  • 171 cm – Big White
  • 165 cm – Apex
