Two of the North Okanagan’s biggest events are planning to return after a two-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In Armstrong, organizers are preparing for the ever-popular return of the Interior Provincial Exhibition.

"We've been two years without a fair," said one of the organizers Heather King, adding she isn't sure what the fair will look like with restrictions.

The fall fair, rodeo, music, farm animal contests and other events will take place Aug. 31 to Sept. 4 for its 121st year.

"We're always looking for volunteers," King said, adding they're hoping to have a volunteer open house in March, as they're looking for local food vendors and musicians.

At this time, they're still waiting to see what restrictions will be announced or rescinded from provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry.

"You plan for the worst and hope for the best kind of thing," she said.

A full schedule of events has yet to be announced, according to the organizer’s website.

The Falkland Stampede, with a more than 100 years of tradition, making it one of Canada’s oldest rodeos, is planning to return on the May long weekend, May 21 to 23, according to the organizer’s Facebook page.

Events are still limited in B.C. and provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry plans to announce an update on pandemic restrictions Feb. 15. Indoor gatherings are currently banned while outdoor events are limited to 50% capacity, or 5,000 people.
