The investigation into a Surrey police officer's misconduct continues as he faces more charges, including one for sexual assault.

Surrey RCMP member Cpl. Peter Leckie is accused of using his position as a police officer to engage in intimate relationships with women, both on and off duty.

In June, nine charges for breach of trust and fraud were approved against Leckie, which were in connection with "misconduct" with three people between January 2014 and October 2020, according to a Surrey RCMP news release.

Crown prosecutors laid five more charges against him yesterday, Nov. 23, including sexual assault, breach of trust and fraudulent use of a computer service. The new charges stem from allegations of misconduct between January 2014 and December 2021.

Leckie has worked for the Surrey RCMP since 2010.

It's not clear how long the investigation continued before the initial nine charges were laid, but he was suspended with pay for an undisclosed length of time before the Crown approved those charges, RCMP said. At that point, his suspension continued without pay.

"These are disturbing allegations of breach of trust and fraud involving one of our police officers," assistant commissioner for Surrey RCMP Brian Edwards said in the June news release.

Leckie will appear in court on Dec. 14 to answer to the additional charges.

In the June news release, Surrey RCMP released Leckie's photo and asked anyone with more information to contact the Professional Standards Unit at 604-599-7887.
