Interior Health issues drug warning in Kamloops

A drug alert has been issued by Interior Health for a potentially lethal drug being sold in Kamloops.

According to Interior Health's warning issued yesterday, Sept. 17, the drug is called "down" and has numerous health risks, including seizures, respiratory failure, anxiety and death. It contains a synthetic cannabinoid, fentanyl and caffeine.

The drug is described as light brown or beige in colour, and causes memory problems, difficulty thinking, excessive sweating, and both visual and auditory hallucinations.

Interior Health advises users to get their drugs checked, and if they use alone to download the free Lifeguard app, which will connect unresponsive users with immediate paramedic assistance.

The Interior Health warning is in effect until Sept. 24.
