Interior Health has more than half of new COVID-19 cases in B.C.

The Interior Health region continues to record the lion’s share of new COVID-19 cases in B.C.

Over the past 24 hours, there were 271 new cases in the region out of 513 for the entire province, according to Ministry of Health news release issued today, Aug. 12.

Of the 3,834 active cases in B.C., 2,199 are in Interior Health.

Of the new cases, 108 are in Fraser Health, 92 in Vancouver Coastal, 29 on Vancouver Island and 12 in the North.

There are 81 people in hospital with about half of them in the Interior Health region. There are 33 B.C. residents in intensive care.

There has been one more death in Interior Health.

The vaccination rate has crept up to 82.3 per cent for first dose for those over the age of 12 and 71.6 per cent for those receiving their second jab.
