Interior Health, B.C. continue to struggle with high daily COVID-19 case counts

After a few relatively good days, the number of new COVID-19 cases in the Interior Health region jumped above the 200 mark again to reach 213 in the last 24 hours.

In B.C., there were 706 new cases, according to a news release from the Ministry of Health issued today, Sept. 16. That, too, is higher than in recent days.

The Fraser Health region recorded 203 new cases, Vancouver Coastal came in at 105, there were 104 in Northern Health and 81 on Vancouver Island.

Four more people died, but none in the Interior Health region. The provincial death toll is now 1,877.

There are 291 people in hospital with 134 in intensive care out of 5,844 active cases in B.C., 1,504 of which are in Interior Health.

The vaccination rate for those over 12 years of age has reached 86.3% with one dose, 78.8% with two doses.

From Sept. 8 to 14, out of 4,914 new COVID-19 cases, 68.1% were in people who were not vaccinated, 8% in people with one dose and 23.9% who were fully vaccinated.

When it comes to the 390 people who were hospitalized in the two weeks from Sept. 1 to 14, 81.5% were not vaccinated, 4.9% had one shot and 13.6% were fully vaccinated.
