Some of the most popular festivals in the Southern Interior – as well as many of the smaller events – are receiving significant support from provincial funding.

Tourism Events Program, a provincial program, cuts cheques for up to $250,000 each year.

However, the largest sums of money granted for 2023 were $200,000. Events receiving that much cash were Bass Coast and the Rockin’ River Fest – both in Merritt, Revelstoke’ 2023 Natural Selection Tour, and Shambhala in the West Kootenays.

In Kamloops, the Scotties Tournament of Hearts will receive $75,000, the 2023 Special Olympics British Columbia Winter Games is getting $40,000 and there’s $75,000 for the 2023 Memorial Cup.

For Kelowna, $35,000 is going to the Island Time Music Series, there’s $15,800 for the Gonzo Okanagan Music Industry Golf Tournament and Festival, and $55,200 for Denim on the Diamond.

The Okanagan Indigenous Music and Arts Society in West Kelowna will receive $10,000.

In Penticton, Ignite the Arts Festival and the Scottish Festival Society are both getting a $10,000 boost.

The Vernon Winter Carnival is getting $15,000.

Expedition Canada – which takes place in West Kelowna, Lake Country, Silver Star and Penticton – will benefit from the grant by $10,220.

Big White Mountain Resort is getting funding for three events – $65,600 for AltiTunes Music Fest, $11,664 for the 2023 Para Snowboard World Cup, and $15,150 for Freeride Days.

At Silver Star Mountain Resort, Share the Magic of Silver Star will get $10,225 and Bike Fest will receive $17,500.

Throughout the province a total of $4,808,467 in funding was approved.
