Interior community's emergency department continuously closed

FILE PHOTO

For months, the Clearwater hospital's emergency department has been closed on and off again due to staffing shortages.

Interior Health announced this morning that the emergency department at Dr. Helmcken Memorial Hospital will be closed from 8 a.m., July 2, to 8 a.m. Sunday, July 3.

Full service will resume on Sunday, July 3 at 8 a.m. The emergency department was already closed earlier this week, and last weekend.

Interior Health says in an emergency, residents should call 9-1-1 or visit an emergency department at Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops, or the 100 Mile House General Hospital.

The health authority is also asking residents to call 8-1-1 if you are unsure if you need emergency care.

The emergency department in Clearwater is normally open 24/7.
