KAMLOOPS - An officer at the Kamloops Regional Correctional Centre is still off work after sustaining a bite from an inmate during an assault Saturday evening.

A statement from the Corrections branch of the Ministry of Justice says the inmate was being removed from his cell on April 25 when he bit the guard. RCMP attended the scene while the guard was treated on-site.

The incident has spurred an internal incident review with corrections union representatives. Results of the review will be forwarded to the occupational health and safety committee.

It's unknown if the inmate will face Crown prosecution or institutional charges in Warden's court.
