'Unsexy' sewers need some infrastructure loving, too, report says

.

OTTAWA - Sewers aren't exactly sexy, but they need love, too.

So says a new report that, among other things, is encouraging all levels of government to boost their spending on Canada's less splashy infrastructure projects.

The report by the Canada West Foundation says governments should fight the urge for ribbon-cutting photo ops and spend on existing infrastructure projects, such as water mains and roads.

The study also calls for steady, stable, long-term infrastructure spending so cities and towns can better plan their projects.

The report comes amid reports the federal Conservatives plan to commit long-term infrastructure cash in the next budget.

The Canada West Foundation released the report today in Ottawa.
