Infant boy from Lower Mainland killed in crash southeast of Merritt

An infant boy was killed in a crash southeast of Merritt on Saturday morning.

Police and medical personnel attended the scene of the single-vehicle rollover at 11 a.m. on April 25.

Young parents from the Lower Mainland are mourning the loss of their young son after their SUV rolled off of Highway 97C west of Loon Lake Road in the Aspen Grove area, according to Cpl. Mike Halskov, media relations officer with E-Division Traffic Services.

According to an RCMP media release, the child was properly secured in an appropriate car seat but was ejected during the accident. Both parents were wearing seatbelts and sustained injuries. No one else was in the vehicle.

The road conditions at the time were listed as “good” and there is no criminality suspected in the crash, according to the release.

The Central Interior Traffic Services in Merritt and B.C. Coroners’ Service are investigating the incident.
