Incumbent mayor calls for recount in Peachland

PEACHLAND - Peachland mayor Cindy Fortin says she will ask for a recount but has to wait until Wednesday to make that request official

Fortin lost by one vote (804-803) to Harry Gough in Saturday’s, Oct. 20, municipal election.

“I did ask for a re-count and the double-checking of addresses, because one vote could make a difference,” she wrote on her Facebook page on Sunday. “I don't know if I will get it, but felt that I had to ask for one since it was so close. So, I will wait to concede or not, based on what the outcome of that is.”

B.C.’s Local Government Act allows for judicial recounts but only after the official results are announced. That deadline is Wednesday, Oct. 24, at 4 p.m. Fortin will have until Monday, Oct. 29 to request the review which must be complete by Friday, Nov. 2.

If the vote turns out to be tied, the winner will be decided by a draw of names from a hat (or box).
