'Inadequate' tires may have contributed to fatal crash on Okanagan Connector: RCMP

Police are seeking information from anyone who may have witnessed a fatal single-vehicle crash on the Okanagan Connector Saturday evening.

Officers were called at about 7:20 p.m., Nov. 14, to a crash near the Sunset Main exit on Highway 97C, according to a Merritt RCMP media release.

A white Dodge Ram pickup carrying four people had veered off the freeway, struck a large highway sign and rolled about 30 feet down an embankment.

One man inside the vehicle was declared dead at the scene while the other three were taken to hospital. RCMP did not say how serious their injuries were.

“At this time, investigators believe that poor weather and road conditions contributed to the crash," RCMP state in the release. “Police are also investigating whether or not speed relative to those conditions and inadequate tires also played a role in this fatal crash.”

Anyone with information who has not yet spoken to the police is asked to call the Merritt RCMP at 250-378-4262.
