The Fireplace Channel has a rival for relaxing content to have playing in the background; The Path In is a new YouTube channel showing off the most peaceful trails and sights in the Okanagan.
Pat Hindle loves hiking and started making videos as an afterthought about six months ago.
“For me it’s about being outside. If I can be out on the trails that’s my happy spot,” he said. “It was supposed to be a retirement hobby but I haven't retired yet. My wife said to try it out and see if I like it. I got some equipment and headed out, I had no idea what I was doing. I kind of just headed out and figured out what I was doing, figured out how to edit videos and away I went.”
He did the interview with iNFOnews.ca over the phone from the Gladstone trail in Peachland.
"I’m at a rock outcrop and I’ve been out here enjoying the view for about 45 minutes," he said.
He started putting the videos on YouTube as a way to show friends and family, but the serene footage has captured the attention of a select few in the Okanagan.
“I never really expected, or wanted to get recognition. But if I can convince some people to slow down, get outside, and appreciate what’s around that’s great,” he said.
Hindle finds these spots through pure exploration.
“Most of them I’ve already hiked but I also go on Google Earth and skim over the area and see trailheads I haven’t done. I'll go check it out, it’s just exploring. Whether it’s heading out in the car and seeing what you can find or figuring out a plan before you get in the car,” he said.
Hindle recommends Regional Park trails, but he’s keeping some of the region's hidden gems a secret.
“I like the quiet ones but as soon as you say the quiet ones away they go,” he said.
