A driver was caught on camera travelling into oncoming traffic on Highway 97 north of Penticton this afternoon.

Renee Hughes had her dash cam on at around 12:25 p.m. today, March 29, when she was travelling south on the highway towards Penticton. Shortly after passing the Sage Mesa Road intersection a white sedan is seen coming around a corner towards her.

The four-lane highway is divided by concrete barriers in the middle so the wrong-way driver was in a tricky position to correct their mistake.

Fortunately for Hughes, who was in the opposite lane, there was no other traffic and she was able to stay safe without making any rash decisions.

The incident was reported to the RCMP.

"Police are aware of this incident and it is currently under investigation," Penticton RCMP media relations officer Const. Dayne Lyons said. "More information will be shared as the investigation progresses."
