Animals can get heat stroke and die from heat exhaustion when summer temperatures sky-rocket but the owner of a busy farm sanctuary in Kamloops knows how to keep her animals cool.

Jaye Dueck of Eden's Way Farm Sanctuary on Shuswap Road feeds her roughly 60 rescued animals cold or frozen watermelon on the hottest of days.

When temperatures hit 37 Celsius on Sunday, Aug. 10, Dueck captured footage of an adorable sheep called Blue diving noisily into a bucket of watermelon.

“We ensure everyone gets fresh cold water, filling the buckets twice per day,” she said. “Electrolytes are added on some days and we ensure they can access salt and mineral blocks. There is access to shade and we put out fans too. The rabbit house has air conditioning they run in and out of. The frozen treats help keep them happy and hydrated."

Pools, misting stations and other cold treats like popsicles are also helpful tools.
