A Princeton couple was shocked when they spotted a moose ensnared in a wire fence and even more surprised when the ungulate stayed calm while it was set free.
Kirk Barharn and Angie Hillmer were driving toward Summerland where they spotted the entangle moose near Thirsk Lake, just off Princeton Summerland Road.
In a video she posted to social media, Barharn approaches the moose as it laid on the ground, trying to free its own leg from the fence.
She urged him to be careful as Barharn wrangled its leg and freed it from the fence.
"It was just amazing," Hillmer said. "I'm flabbergasted that a moose allowed him to do that... I don't think we'll see that again."
Barharn said they often see wildlife, including moose, at their Princeton-area property but they never expected to lay their hands on a live moose.
It's not clear how long the moose was stuck, but after a brief stumble, it managed to walk back into the forest.
"I know she's grateful," Hillmer says in the video as it trots back into the woods.
