A Halloween event in the North Okanagan is growing so big it's set to hit a new attendance record this year.

It’s the first time organizers of the Haunting of Falkland offered pre-purchase tickets online and after just one week, the response has “exceeded all expectations of the event committee members,” according to media release by Thunder Boyz Productions issued Oct. 4.

Organizers are predicting roughly 6,000 people will be attending this Halloween.

“People from all over British Columbia have purchased tickets and to the surprise of The Haunting of Falkland even United States of America citizens from as far as Seattle have bought tickets,” reads the release. “One of the major surprises was the pre-purchase of 56 event tickets from one of the local universities to have their foreign exchange students experience the scare of a Canadian Halloween.”

The event began small during the pandemic as a fundraiser for the Falkland museum and the number of visitors continues to grow every year.

The event offers a multitude of spooky activities including laser shows, a creepy carnival, nightmare forest and a ghost caboose.

There are "no-scare" options for the kids, refreshments and bonfires.

New this year is The Hunt for ages 16 and over where participants are locked in a basement with a fake serial killer.

Zombie Shoot gives all ages a chance to shoot zombies with a laser in the forest.

The Haunting of Falkland runs in the evenings from Friday Oct. 20 to Sunday Oct. 22, and again the following weekend from Friday Oct. 27 to Sunday Oct. 29. Well over 8,000 people have visited the website and ticket sales are still pouring in daily.

“We weren’t sure what the response would be for pre-sales and moving to online… but this has really caught us by surprise,” Falkland museum curator Denise Frocklage said in the release.
