iN VIDEO: Okanagan fishermen encounter 'Fire bags of death'

KELOWNA - They call themselves the Backing Boys and on their YouTube channel they "fish B.C. and laugh along the way."

Last week, however, they found themselves "saving the environment, one Chinese lantern at a time."

The fishing trio were out on Wood Lake April 29, when they saw bright orbs rise into the air.

"We were trying to figure out what they were and they landed in the lake," said one of the Backing Boys, speaking to the camera.

Another chipped in to say, "they're big, whatever they are."

They then powered up their boat and headed toward whatever it was that landed in the lake, offering a couple colourfully worded insights along the way.

Turned out they were gas-fuelled plastic lanterns, which didn't sit well with the men, accurately observing the risk of starting a forest fire.

"Where do you think they're going to come down? You are just littering. Two of three came down in the lake," one said.

Another pointed out there were lucky to find them.

"(We're) just saving the environment, one Chinese lantern at a time," he said.
