REVELSTOKE - A passenger bus with a dashcam recorded the moment it almost collided with a semi truck near Revelstoke.

Revelstoke RCMP were dispatched to a two-vehicle collision between the commercial truck and passenger bus on the Trans-Canada Highway approximately three km east of Revelstoke. The defensive driving of a charter bus driver, in all likelihood saved many lives, a media release says. Only a few minor injuries resulted.

At approximately 3 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 7, the Revelstoke RCMP attended to a collision scene, where a passenger coach with eight persons on board was struck by a commercial tractor trailer. The scene examination, and dashcam footage from the bus showed that the eastbound bus was struck when the westbound truck approached a curve and crossed over into the eastbound lane and into the path of the bus. The incident occurred in an undivided two lane portion of the Trans-Canada Highway.

Dashcam video depicts collision between commercial truck and charter bus.

The road way was closed for under an hour due to the partial blockage of the highway. Traffic control personnel were required to allow single lane traffic until a local tow company was able to safely effect the removal of the vehicles.

The commercial tractor trailer operator received a Provincial Motor Vehicle Act Violation Ticket.

"Considering the recent volume of commercial vehicle incidents in the area, the Revelstoke RCMP and B.C. RCMP Traffic Services would like to remind all drivers that roadways are constructed for safe driving at the posted speed limit. Driving to road conditions means travelling at a rate which ensures the ability to safely maintain your lane and stay on the road. All drivers are encouraged to slow down: drive the speed limit, (advisory or variable speed limits), and do their part to ensure that everyone gets to their destination safely," Sgt Kurt Grabinsky of the Revelstoke RCMP says in the release.
