iN VIDEO: Lake Country security camera captures visiting cougar near home

For the last six months, a Lake Country Carr’s Landing resident has seen a furry visitor at her doorstep.

Bonnie Alguire shared her most recent video of a cougar taking a moment to pause at Alguire’s front door to a Lake Country Facebook group. The video was taken from a security camera, March 31.

As it’s only around a night, she isn’t concerned for her own safety, but does worry about the neighbour’s cat, she said.

With a home on Coral Beach Road, she said she sees wildlife all the time.

“It’s fun to find the video in the morning,” she said. Alguire and her husband think it’s the same cougar that continues to visit.

She has contacted the Conservation Officer Service, she said and has captured three videos in the last six months.

Ken Owens, Kelowna Conservation Officer, said officers are aware of the sightings, but the animal currently poses no threat to the public.

He asks that residents keep their pets indoors at night and keep livestock in a place where the cougar can’t get at the animals, as the predator will prey on easy meals.

That area is common for cougar sightings, he said, as it’s directly adjacent to a forest fringe with plenty of deer.
