A Kamloops pilot took off into smoky skies earlier this week.

Jan Nademlejnsky posted a video of his ultralight flight to his YouTube page on Wednesday, July 15, showing him hovering high above Kamloops through thick wildfire smoke.

Nademlejnsky frequently records videos of his flights in his ultralight aircraft, which highlight the Thompson Valley landscapes and the Tournament Capital's sprawl adjacent to the two rivers.

This time it was much different. Kamloops is barely visible and turbulence caused by a nearby wildfire forced the pilot to cut his flight short.

The air quality in Kamloops is currently at a "moderate risk," according to Environment Canada's Air Quality Health Index, but the wildfire smoke isn't likely to dissipate much given the size and quantity of wildfires in the Kamloops area.
