iN VIDEO: Heartwarming ad looks at rebuild of Lytton after fire

Two children pull a tree sapling with a wagon through Lytton, B.C., in an advertisement for ATCO, published May 11, 2022.

A video advertisement shows the remains of the Lytton after a wildfire ravaged the village last summer.

Utilities company ATCO shot the commercial last month. Uploaded to the company YouTube page, May 11, it gives a look at what's left of the village nearly a year later.

Lytton beat the record for Canada's hottest place on June 29, 2021, at 49.6 C. The next day, nearly the entire village was wiped out by a wildfire.

Without a valid reason, people aren't currently allowed inside the village, partly due to hazardous dust and ash. The entrance is blocked by security and a covered fence lines Highway 1, preventing drivers from looking down upon Lytton.

In a recent update on its website, the Village of Lytton announced it has started the process of cleaning hazardous and contaminated soils. In a May 11 news release, it announced Matcon Environmental would lead the clean up efforts.
