iN VIDEO: Hail in the South Okanagan

OKANAGAN FALLS - Thunderstorms with showers turned to hail the size of chickpeas in Okanagan Falls.

Penticton Airport reports thunderstorms began at about 4 p.m. with the hail starting just after 4:30 p.m. today Saturday, Sept. 22.

Environment Canada says hail is formed when updrafts in thunderclouds carry raindrops upward into extremely cold areas of the atmosphere, where they freeze and merge into lumps of ice.

Though the chunks of ice have already melted, here's a short clip from one very excited reporter.
