A famous grizzly bear at the Grizzly Bear Refuge in Golden’s Kicking Horse Mountain Resort woke up from hibernation earlier this month and the special moment was caught on video.

Boo the bear can be seen clawing his way out of the snow, peering into the sun and sitting down looking around in the video posted by the resort.

The grizzly bear refuge is a 20-acre area created for Boo that allows the bear to safely hunt, play and explore in a natural mountainside habitat, according to the Kicking Horse Resort website.

There's an interpretive centre at the resort in the summer where guests can go to watch the bear.

Boo is 22 years old this year.
