In a time when the pandemic has cancelled sporting events, getting a taste of the great Canadian sport might help bring back a sense of familiarity.
Documentary maker Kai Farenholtz calls Kamloops home, and it’s clear he has a passion for his hometown hockey team. The documentary Junior Hockey History: The Kamloops Blazers features audio and video from Blazer’s games dating back to 1981.
The Kamloops team has scored 14 division titles, six league championships and are three-time Memorial Cup champions.
“Throughout the years, Kamloops has seen its fair share of unmatched talent, whether that be on the ice or standing behind the bench,” Farenholtz says in the video.
The documentary touches on many of the team's star players, like Jermaine Loewen. He was the first Jamaican-born player in the WHL and, according to the NHL website, was the first Jamaican-born player drafted into the big leagues.
Over the course of the team's history, there have been some tough times and hardships like injuries and managers stepping down before playoff seasons.
