Damien Hannah is a greenskeeper at the Osoyoos Golf Club and while it isn’t uncommon to for Hannah to see wildlife on the course, what he saw on June 15 was unusual.

“I was mowing away and happened to notice a coyote had his attention on something, then he shook a big snake and let it go again,” he said.

Hannah grabbed his phone began recording as the coyote pulled a giant snake out of the long grass and moved across the green, wrestling with it and dropping out of sight behind a small rise.

“I drove up closer and as I’m creeping along the hill you can tell he wasn’t afraid of me, he just sat there having a chomp.”

Hannah backed his cart up and the coyote picked up the remains of the meal and moved away.

He has seen lots of wildlife out on the golf course but it’s the first time he has seen a coyote eat a snake.

“We see rattlesnakes, bull snakes, bears and lots of birds,” he said. “I’ve seen coyotes hunt and come up with a rabbit or a mole, but never a snake."

It was an interesting nature moment Hannah said he won’t forget.

“That was an older bull snake, the coyote got himself a good one.”
