iN TRAFFIC: Expect slippery sections on Thompson-Okanagan highways

DriveBC warns of slippery sections on the Coquihalla Highway from 6 km south of the Great Bear Snowshed to 8 km north of the Surrey Lake Summit north of Merritt today, Jan. 23.

B.C. Travellers Forecast calls for flurries ending this morning on the Coquihalla Highway from Hope to Merritt then mainly cloudy with 60 percent chance of flurries. Snow levels will be near valley bottoms with gusty winds.

The Coquihalla Highway from Merritt to Kamloops is expected to be cloudy with a 60 percent chance of flurries early this morning, then a mix of sun and cloud.

Drivers on the Okanagan Connector (Highway 97C) are advised to watch for slippery sections and compact snow for the entire length from Merritt to West Kelowna. Expect periods of snow, with accumulations of up to 2 cm. That should this morning then be followed by a mix of sun and cloud.

Highway 3 from Hope to Princeton will be cloudy with a 60 percent chance of flurries this morning.

Watch for slippery sections from Hedley to Keremeos on Highway 3 and from Summerland to Kelowna on Highway 97.

On Highway 1, watch for slippery sections from 6 km east of Kamloops to Glacier National Park.

Drivers can expect periods of snow with accumulations of 2 to 4 cm today on Highway 1 from Eagle Pass to Rogers Pass

The Environment Canada forecast for Kamloops shows a chance of flurries this morning then a mix of sun and cloud with a high of 1 Celsius and winds up to 15 km/h.

Periods of snow are expected to end this morning in Kelowna and Vernon with accumulations of about 2 cm and a high of 0 C. Winds of 15 km/h are also forecast.

Penticton could have a few flurries ending this morning then a mix of sun and cloud with a high of 1 C and winds of 20 km/h.

Sun Peaks Ski Resort had 2 cm of new snow in the last 24 hours leaving the hill with an alpine base of 154 cm. It’s -6 C.

Silver Star Mountain Resort is -8 C, with 3.5 cm of new snow in the last 24 hours and an alpine base of 179 cm.

Big White Ski Resort had 4 cm of new snow in the last 24 hours, is -10 C and has an alpine base of 188 cm.

Apex Mountain Resort had no new snow in the last 24 hours, has an alpine base of 170 cm and is -6 C.
