iN RESPONSE to Monday, Feb. 24 newsletter editorial on interprovincial trade barriers

I am a Canadian first who, by choice, lives in British Columbia. It has been a conversational topic most of my life. Why do the provinces have trade barriers between each other? Free enterprise depends on a competitive market to allow the consumer the best product for the best price. This is only one concept I have pondered. The other is why does Canada not have a universal education policy? A mechanic, electrician, teacher, doctor, nurse, lawyer, truck driver, or any of many trades and professions have to be certified in each province. Are we not all Canadians? From St. John's Newfoundland to Victoria, there should not any qualification tests to enable that qualified person to practice their skills anywhere in Canada. I served six years in the Canadian Armed Forces, I swore allegiance to Canada - not to B.C. or any other province. I now would like, after this treatment from the U.S., is for all Canadians to come together to fight the aggression from south of the border. — George Miller, via email

Marshall, I took down my flag when the 'convoy-ers' stole it and made it dirty. We have taken it back. I now have a flag flying again. The only good thing Trump did was restore our flag and our patriotism. — Craig Jefferson, Kamloops, via email

JONESIE: The only ones who could stop a (potential) US dictatorship

Well demonstrated Mr. Jones. Jeez, I sure hope people will understand your message and recognize themselves for who they really are. Ignorance is so dangerous. — Helen Price, via iNFOnews.ca

Vernon contractor charged $800 for a quote, then sued the customer

Aslan has more entries for civil court actions than many lawyers do. They have more small claims matters over the last 25 years than any other plumbing and heating company in Vernon. I get that they win sometimes, maybe they win often, but, any business that is in small claims court that often has something seriously wrong with their business practices. If you end up in court against a client, that’s a part of life and is unfortunate. If you end up in court against a client hundreds of times, well, there’s a common denominator to that. — William Mastop, via iNFOnews.ca

TRU student's career aspirations shattered by 'unfair' university investigation

As usual, both sides are guilty of not having the same opinion, however, it seems that the university is keeping to the side of the money train. — Kanuck Sxysven, via iNFOnews.ca

These investigations set up by employers are often unfair and specially designed to find the person who was harassed as the problem. WorkSafeBC doesn’t validate the methodology or ensure standards are met. The whole process is set up to benefit the employer over the complainants all throughout government and no doubt private sector too. — James Seldon, via iNFOnews.ca

Vernon contractor charged $800 for a quote, then sued the customer

The whole meaning of the term “estimate” speaks for itself. You would not need an estimate if you were prepared to agree to the job at the onset. That’s why we get estimates. If the estimate costs it needs to be stated up front. “We charge such and such for an estimate”, and any company that is decent deducts that estimate from the bill if you proceed. This company doesn’t seem to care about integrity or its reputation and needs to be named and shamed widely online. Caveat Emptor. — Noah Liguori, via iNFOnews.ca

A refugee painter’s journey from Kyiv to Kelowna

Thank you for the feature on Stefania Miro, her life experiences as shared are both humbling and heartening. I am thankful she has a safe haven here in Kelowna. I read a chapter of her book, sadly it is only available via Amazon. Ah well, it reminds me of how my dad helped a woman from Iraq write an account of life in Iraq, she is like an adopted daughter to him. — Patrick Longworth, via email
