North Okanagan photographers are enjoying the spotlight after their stunning images earned them second place when facing off against others across the province.

The Vernon Photography Club, a group of North Okanagan residents, recently received a silver finish in the North Shore Photographic Challenge, a competition that has been around for decades, drawing hundreds of contestants each year.

Ian Bull, communications chair with the club, said they have a history of big wins. In 2018, the Vernon club earned a gold medal and in 2020 they tied for silver.

The photographers who represented the club for the challenge were: Mary-Anne Morgan, Lois McNiven, Svetlana Shkuratova, Dale Eurich, Richard Hues and Bruce Borrowman.

The club has roughly 58 members and meets twice a month. The photo challenge takes entries from across B.C. and they’re usually from photography clubs with about 350 entries each year.

“We just missed the gold by half a point but we’re quite happy with a silver,” Bull said.

The contest is usually won by Lower Mainland clubs as they have more members, he said, but clubs can only submit six images each. Individual scores are tallied to make the total club score.

They heard the news they won last week, he said.

Anyone can join the photography group, Bull said. For more information, visit the club's Facebook page.
