The aurora borealis could be seen big and bright across the northern hemisphere over the weekend due to a geomagnetic storm washing against the Earth’s magnetic field.

Despite cloudy periods, photographers in Kamloops and across the Okanagan were able to capture a whole array of colours as the lights danced across the skies Sunday, Nov. 6.

The geomagnetic storm reached a strong intensity and measured a Kp5 on the K-index, a scale scientists use to measure the disruption to Earth’s magnetic field giving observers just one night to watch the light show. The magnetic activity has since settled down with the Space Weather Prediction Centre showing low magnetic intensity and currently a low chance of observing the aurora in BC.

If you were able to capture a great photo of the lights you want to share, send it to news@infonews.ca.
