A crescent moon and two planets were lined up in a row in yesterday's night sky with the moon on top followed by Jupiter and Venus in a rare conjunction of the moon and two planets.

Osoyoos resident Trevor Reeves took photos of the event from Anarchist Mountain. He's been doing landscape photography for decades, but doesn’t usually shoot at night.

“I am more of a morning photographer but our local photography club was lucky to get a tour by an astrophotographer and we went and shot off her patio,” he said. “The light pollution wasn’t too bad from there.”

Reeves was bundled up for the cold weather and said only his fingers got cold when he had to take his gloves off to set up the camera.

He shot stars and the Milky Way, and the unique trio of the moon, Jupiter and Venus.

“I really like getting out there, it’s a peaceful, quiet sort of thing," he said. "The nice thing is you can enhance the number of stars you see with the capacity of the camera."

Readers shared their photos taken in the B.C. Interior and Alberta, and some from as far away as Nevada, Thailand and Florida.

The celestial bodies have been moving around each other and visible in our sky for a few nights. On Feb. 21, the moon appeared between the planets and the following two nights could be seen in conjunction with them.

Kelowna resident Sean Perdue is a member of the Okanagan branch of the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada and an avid astrophotographer. He said from Feb. 27 to March 5, the moon will start moving further away while Jupiter gets closer to Venus before separating later in March.
