IN PHOTOS: Holiday season officially begins

Dozens of people crowd around the official downtown Christmas tree for a lighting ceremony Thursday evening.

KAMLOOPS - Christmas lights have been making an appearance around the city since the beginning of the month — then Mother Nature coated the city in snow — and now, with the lighting of the Christmas tree at St. Andrews on the Square the holiday season is officially upon us.

Dozens of people braved the cold wind to see the official lighting, along with the Grinch, Father Christmas and Rudolf. Hot chocolate and crafts kept people busy inside while they waited for the tree lighting, and Desert Sounds Harmony Chorus filled the ceremony with Christmas carols.

The seasonal events will continue Saturday with the Santa Claus Parade downtown and Santa officially arriving at Aberdeen and Sahali malls.  Several holiday craft fairs will also be held this weekend. Be prepared if you are heading to any outdoor events, temperatures will be well below normal this weekend along with strong winds.
