If you thought hiking was just for dogs, this Kamloops adventure cat is here to prove you wrong.

Jasmine McDaniels of Kamloops was never an avid hiker until it dawned on her that she could train her cat Pickle to come along.

"I started harnessed collar training her as soon as I got her, so she doesn’t mind it at all," McDaniels said.

Pickle walks just like a dog would, following the trail with her human companions.

"We try to take her out every weekend... whether it’s 15 minutes or an hour."

McDaniels was inspired by Adventure Cat which she follows on Instagram. It documents domestic cats traveling the world with their owners, camping or hiking — sometimes through the snow.

Pickle had her first hike in the snow that hit Kamloops last month, but it was a little too cold for her. She's still getting used to winter adventures, as she's only five months old.

"I think the older she gets, she'll become more used to being outside," McDaniels said. "I would eventually like to, with the proper protective gear, take her on more snowy hikes."

Some of their favourite hiking spots so far are the Lac du Bois grasslands and Peterson Creek trails. Pickle's adventures are documented on her own Instagram page here.

"I just wanted to share with my friends and family this cool thing I was doing with my cat," McDaniels said.

"I thought if I enjoy it, maybe someone else will too."
