Residents across the Okanagan and Kamloops got a treat over the weekend, a big, bright full Hunter’s Moon lit up the sky for several nights and reached its peak on Saturday, Oct. 28.
With mainly clear sky conditions, some shutterbugs braved the sub zero temperatures to take photos of the moon with some showing the planet of Jupiter shining brightly beside it.
It is believed the full Hunter’s Moon got its name because it was a signal telling hunters to go hunting in preparation for the winter while animals were fattening up according to The Almanac.
Other names are Sanguine or Blood Moon associated with the blood from hunting or the colour of changing leaves.
The next full moon is the full Beaver Moon that rises on Monday, Nov. 27.
