Southern Interior residents are capturing the snowfall across the region today with their cameras and smartphones.

The first significant snowfall in the valley bottoms in the Okanagan and Kamloops is expected to continue all day and overnight.

"A low pressure system moving southeast across Vancouver Island has spread snow into the southern Interior this morning. The snow will continue all day giving accumulations up to 15 centimetres over elevations just above valley bottom. Accumulations will be 10 cm or less at valley bottom due to temperatures being just above freezing," according to a special weather statement from Environment Canada.

Snowfall warnings are in effect for the South Thompson and Okanagan Valley with travel advisories on upper elevation highways including the Coquihalla, the Okanagan Connector and Highway 3. The Coquihalla from Merritt to Hope is currently closed due to a multi-vehicle crash.
