Parts of Kamloops and the Okanagan turned Pretty in Pink over the past few days as magnolia trees blossomed in yards and gardens with fragrant, large blooms.
There are 225 species of trees and shrubs in the magnolia family that are native to North and South America, the Himalayas and East Asia, according to Britannica.
The plants can be evergreen or deciduous, with pink, white or purple flowers located at the branch tips with seeds hanging down by slender threads.

Some species native to North America are hardy and can grow more than 30 metres tall, while others are more shrub-like.
Magnolia flowers symbolize beauty, purity, and longevity and the species has been around for millennia.
