iN PHOTOS: Another Vernon Winter Carnival reaches a successful end

An ice palace was constructed for the 60th Vernon Winter Carnival.

Vernon’s beloved carnival has ended for another year.

The Vernon Winter Carnival celebrated an important milestone this year with the theme Remembers the 60s, in celebration of its 60th anniversary.

To celebrate, it showcased its iconic ice palace in front of the museum in Civic Plaza.

And 60 years after the first carnival floats passed through downtown Vernon in its inaugural parade, the festival staple was just as popular. Vernon Winter Carnival executive director Vicki Proulx said this year's parade featured 89 different entries, just four short of the 93 floats that took place in 1961.

"There are thousands of people that come out for (the parade)," Proulx said. "No matter what the weather the streets are always jam-packed, it can be snowing, it can -15 C, it could be sunny, it could be raining, people come out every year."

Activities included a snow sculpture contest, musical performances, a Lego space building party, a polar bear siwm, a snowflake ball and more.

The carnival festivities wrapped up Feb. 16 and readers shared some of their favourite activities on social media.
