iN NUMBERS: Solid May rainfall in the Okanagan, not so much in Kamloops

In this era of constant record-breaking climate events, regular, boring weather is something to celebrate.

In May, the Okanagan had some thrillingly average weather and rainfall, but the clouds in Kamloops have some catching up to do.

Here are the numbers:

  • 58: Millimetres of precipitation in Penticton in May, 20 more than the average.
  • 26: Millimetres of precipitation in Kelowna in May,  14 less than the average.
  • 30 Millimetres of precipitation in Vernon in May, 15 less than the average.
  • 11: Millimetres of precipitation in Kamloops in May, 23 less than the average.
  • 3.5: Millimetres is the lowest record precipitation for May in Kelowna back in 2021.
  • 0: Millimetres of precipitation is the record low for May in Kamloops back in 1904.
  • 32: Degrees Celsius was the hottest day in Kelowna for May.
  • 30: Degrees Celsius is expected in Kamloops and the Okanagan this coming weekend.
  • 342.38: Metre lake level in Okanagan Lake at the end of May, close to the maximum safe level.
  • 2,100: Cubic metres of streamflow in Thompson River at the end of May.
