Kamloops and Kelowna have managed to lower their unemployment rates as the country as a whole struggles with rising unemployment. Kelowna is pretty close to the lowest unemployment rate in the country and Kamloops is sitting towards the high end.
Here are the numbers from Statistics Canada:
4.1: Per cent is Kelowna’s unemployment rate in August, 2.8 per cent lower than it was in April.
10.3: Per cent is Kamloops’ unemployment rate in August, up from 6.3 per cent in April, but down from 10.7 in July.
7.1: Per cent is the unemployment rate for the whole country, up from 6.9 per cent in July.
11.1: Per cent is the unemployment rate in Windsor, Ont., the highest rate for any Canadian metropolitan area.
4: Per cent is the unemployment rate for Saguenay, Que. the lowest for any Canadian metropolitan area.
83,200: People were employed in Kamloops in April.
64,300: People were employed in Kamloops in August.
106,700: People were employed in Kelowna in April.
129,300: People were employed in Kelowna in August.
37.58: Dollars an hour was the average wage for workers in B.C. in August. Down from 38.24 in April.
