iN NUMBERS: Generous acts in Kamloops, Okanagan

Reading the news is often a bummer, but not this time.

Folks in Kamloops and the Okanagan have been generous with their time and their cash, so here’s a quick dose of inspiration to help restore your faith in humanity.

Here are the numbers:

117: Hectares of land alongside Okanagan Lake near West Kelowna were donated for preservation.
1: Million dollars donated by an anonymous couple to help train doctors in the South Okanagan.
60: Temporary tiny homes are opening up for homeless folks in Kelowna.
100: Lemonade stands raising money for JoeAnna’s House in Kelowna was the goal for Good Lemonade Day on June 14.
2: Days is how long it took to actually dredge the Oyama Canal, even though it took community members years to get permission to do so.
30: Volunteer hours a week for Kamloops local Jeremy Salamandyk since he was 15.
60: Vernon Search and Rescue members volunteer roughly 100 hours a year to help people.
1: New café in Vernon is giving people with diverse abilities employment opportunities.
8: Years in a row Mamas for Mamas has organized a fundraising golf tournament, including this year on July 21.
1.5: Million dollar jackpot in the 50/50 raffle to support South Okanagan Similkameen Medical Foundation and the Feedway Foundation.
