PENTICTON - An impaired cyclist ended up in Penticton hospital after failing to make certain the intersection was clear before proceeding, RCMP say.

Penticton RCMP are investigating the incident, which occurred yesterday, Jan. 7, around 7 p.m. at the intersection of Nanaimo Avenue East and Ellis Street.

The cyclist was riding on the sidewalk and was struck by a vehicle while crossing the intersection after failing to first stop and ensure the roadway was clear, police say.

The cyclist suffered minor injuries and was taken to Penticton Regional Hospital after the police investigation revealed the cyclist was intoxicated.

Const. James Grandy said in a press release no charges are being considered in the case.
