Interior Health and the province are planning to open a new urgent care clinic in North Kamloops.
The new Urgent and Primary Care Centre will add a second to the city as there is currently just one other clinic at Royal Inland Hospital.
In a city with no walk-in clinics available, the addition will be welcome news for North Shore residents, especially for those who don't have a family doctor.
The North Shore clinic is expected to open within Northills Mall, but it's not clear when. The request for proposals expects contractors to make "substantial" progress on the project by August 2024. Interior Health has a $3 million construction budget for the project.
On Nov. 27, the health authority put out a call for architecture firms to design the new clinic.
iNFOnews.ca reached out for more details on the plan, but a spokesperson was not able to respond with a statement. They did say, however, the Ministry of Health and Interior Health are working together on the new clinic.
